Pay Day!

by Ashley on December 10, 2009

The most annoying thing so far about working to get out of debt is the wait between pay days.  There are things to be done every day, mostly working a lot and not spending money, but I only get to really feel the satisfaction of progress when the money comes in every two weeks.

When I was younger, I used to confuse people with my casual attitude toward pay day.  Sometimes I would even wait for a few checks to come in before I’d bother to pick them up.  I needed the money in the long term, but I had almost no bills, so I wasn’t dependent on the next pay day in order to carry on with my life.

It’s only happened in the last year or so where I am very aware of the next pay day, looking forward to it and sometimes having to wait for the money to be deposited before I can go buy something I need (or don’t need).

Now I look forward to pay days not with desperation, but excitement, because it means finally getting that satisfaction of putting extra money toward my debt.  It’s weird how some of the excitement I used to feel toward spending money has been transfered to saving money or paying down my debts.

Pay day is finally here (today for one job, tomorrow for the other), and I am so excited to finally be able to make my first significant payment toward the credit card I’m paying off first.

Ashely, I haven’t commented over here yet but I just wanted to say how glad I am that you decided to share this blog over at Writing to Reach You. I’m in a similarly crappy debt situation and it’s easy to feel all alone with your problem – it’s fantastic that you are really putting yourself out there and sharing your goals and progress with us. It’s really motivating for me to see someone working hard to get their debt down and succeeding. Keep it up, girl!

I love pay day….sadly for me, it only comes once a month.

YAY for pay days! Mine’s on the 15th & 30th…sometimes I wish we only got paid once a month since that would be so much easier and simple w/ our budget & bills. I’ve had to call some companies to change the due dates so half of our bills are due 1st half of the month and then the other half 2nd half of the month. Whew!

Congratulations on making a big payment towards your credit card! :)

Getting paid is ever so nice. I’ve been fairly lax on my spending lately and I’ve built up a little debt because of it. I’m sort of ashamed because this will not be the first time either. I look forward to each payday as well. Just knowing that I can put money towards that debt is thrilling. I’m trying to curtail my spending as much as possible, but let’s face it – the holiday season makes that difficult.

Keep up the unbelievably hard work because it will pay off – alright I made a pun without knowing it there. Congrats on reaching your payment goal!

Congratulations on your first payment. It sounds like you’re already making progress.

I face pay day with happiness and sorrow at the same time. “Yay I have money,” and then I proceed to put nearly every dime toward bills, paying every single one I have due at the time, and then my bank account is practically empty yet again.
